Why Adam chose Macau?

•“Looking at Portuguese influence around the world”
•He thinks that China is an important country in the world (his dad teaches US-China relation)
•Macau is combined by Portuguese culture and Chinese culture


Development of Macau in recent decade

•1999 handoverà new economic policy
•the casino industry was opened to foreign investment
• X monopolized by Stanley Ho
Macau tries to place itself as the gaming and leisure destination for all of Asia
Dreams of Macau people


What Adam wants to tell in this artwork?

•Macau is a very small place with very big expectations. But these expectations were soon
outgrown as well.


Purpose of the artwork

•To see what is happening in reality“you have to be honest about what’s going on at the same time”“…present Macau as existing somewhere between a reflection of an internal architecture and that of a physical reality.”

•“witnessed a key moment in its transformation from a small enclave into a gambling Mecca.”
